Flora & Fungi of Cypress Mountain
From delicate ferns to vibrant wildflowers, Cypress Mountain is home to a diverse array of plant life waiting to be discovered. The park also hosts a rich variety of fungi, thriving in the moist forest environment and open meadows. Most species fruit in the damp seasons of spring and fall, adding to the mountain’s natural beauty.

Cypress Provincial Park lies within the Coastal Western Hemlock and Subalpine Mountain Hemlock zones, featuring towering western and mountain hemlock, amabilis fir, and yellow-cedar (also called yellow-cypress, the park’s namesake). Western white pine and Douglas fir can also be found in the lower elevations.

Naturally occurring forest fires are rare in the subalpine areas, where snow can linger for over half the year, allowing many trees to reach astonishing ages of over 1,000 years. The park is home to impressive old-growth stands, featuring some of British Columbia’s largest recorded trees for their species—a true testament to the resilience of nature.
